Peacemaking Circles

Based on Indigenous teachings combined with research in conflict resolution, Peacemaking Circles are a resolution process for mending relationships and healing the harm caused by an offense. The Circle process improves relationships, addresses the underlying cause of an offense, and enhances individual and community self-reliance.

Types of Circles may include:
-
Community Building Circles
-
Talking Circles
-
Healing Circles
-
Reintegration Circles
-
Sentencing Circles

Circles are used in a variety of settings such as workplaces, justice systems, schools, and communities. The Circle process can serve many purposes, including:
-
Dialogue
-
Learning
-
Community and team building
-
Strategic planning
-
Conflict resolution and healing

Circles can also be provided to give communities the opportunity to deal with cases including serious harm or death, impaired driving, sexual assault and abuse, and historical childhood sexual abuse using Restorative Justice practices.
